Born in London, I have my own well-established design practice in Sussex, with a client list that includes leading industrial companies, public bodies and publishers. I trained at the London College of Printing before developing my skills working in a number of leading design consultancies. I have worked at design groups, including Carroll, Dempsey and Thirkell (joined in 1982), and The Partners (1985), before setting up Karen Wilks Associates in 1988.

My work is typified by clear, thoughtful typography, ranging from traditional to modernist, to suit the application. My typographic skills are particularly suited to editorial design. My publishing clients include AVA, Debrett’s, Laurence King and Thames & Hudson. My work for UK public bodies includes catalogues and promotion materials for, among others, the Royal Mail and the Imperial War Museum.

Among the awards I have received are those from D&AD and the ISTD. I have lectured at UK colleges, including Sussex Coast College, Farnham College and Central St Martins.
